Jan Shivel and the Talgarth Regeneration group have held a festival during the summer half term holiday for a few years with an interesting programme of events. On Thursday 28th at 11am Oliver Bullough was in the library to chat about Money Laundering and refugee issues. This came about by a remarkable act of serendipity. Jan sent Ailsa a message about how the festival was going and checking upon our fundraising activities during the Bank Holiday weekend. She added the throw away line ‘ if you run into Oliver Bullough, please ask him along to the refugee day [Thurs] in the library. It would be good to pick his brains about International Money Laundering. ‘. The. message arrived at about 3 pm on Saturday and immediately after reading it Ailsa looked up and realised that Oliver Bullough was looking at literature on the stall in Hay! Recognising him from book dust jackets she ventured to ask him and showed him the message. He accepted the invitation and the people in Talgarth Library on Thursday had a remarkable opportunity to hear about his extensive and fascinating research on money laundering and to chat with him about his latest book. Meanwhile in Hay tickets to his talk cost £16!
Many grateful thanks to Oliver for his support.
