For the second year HBTSR have run a competition for schools on the Theme of Welcome with the awards evening on the Day of Welcome 14th June 2024. We have an exhibition of the winning entries in Theatr Brycheiniog until 5th July and hope to transfer  this to Hay Castle for a few weeks.  The entries encompass letters, poems and art on the theme of Welcome/Croeso. In addition to displaying the winning entries, there is a display of some work done by local aspiring Schools of Sanctuary.

This amazing poem written by a child in year 6  shows a  level of empathy  that we can only wish our decision makers had.

The Same Stars
You in pain and agony
While I’m always in safety
Giving you a helping hand
Could mean things that no one would understand.
Even if you are so far,
We all sleep under the same stars.
The days for me just go and go
But for you, they are ever so slow.
Always be yourself even if it is so hard
Because you didn’t deserve to be left behind bars.
So fly like a bird, now make a start.
Just know that I care for
you and it comes purely from the heart!
